ROS 2 Lifecycle Node
Key Insight
In complex robot systems, nodes must start, configure, and shutdown in a predictable sequence to prevent unsafe behaviors, such as a controller sending commands before the perception system is ready. A ROS 2 lifecycle node provides a state machine with managed states (Unconfigured, Inactive, Active, Finalized) and transitions (configure, activate, deactivate, cleanup, shutdown). This setup allows a system coordinator to handle errors or hardware disconnects gracefully by deactivating the node or transitioning it to a safe recovery state.
